Comment devenir Plombier ?
Un diplôme de plombier ou encore d’installateur en thermique et sanitaire permet de :
- Monter des installations thermiques
- Monter des équipements techniques du bâtiment
- Monter des installations sanitaires
Cette formation peut démarrer en fin 1er cycle des collèges de l’enseignement secondaire (niveau 5ème).
En supplément l’ANPE met à disposition une formation diplômante (http://www.afpa.fr/formations/les-offres-de-formation-et-vae/formation-diplomante/fiche/7050/installateur-en-thermique-et-sanitaire.html) pour le métier de Plombier.
Cette formation dure environ 9 mois (1260 heures) et comporte 3 modules qualifiants (Réaliser des éléments d’installateurs de chauffage et de sanitaire, Réaliser des installations collectives neuves de chauffage et de sanitaire, Réaliser des installations individuelles neuves de chauffage et sanitaire).

Le métier de plombier ou installateur sanitaire est chargé de la réalisation et laréparation des installations sanitaires et de chauffage.
Ce métier est en pleine transformation avec l’arrivée des énergies renouvelables.
En effet, le plombier est plus que jamais un consultant pour les besoinsénergétiques des particuliers et des professionnels.

Le plombier monte, répare et entretient les canalisations d'eau et de gaz en amont et en aval des appareils eux-mêmes. Il effectue aussi la pose et la réparation des appareils sanitaires : baignoire, chauffe-eau, compteur, robinetterie.

Description des tâches / conditions de travail
Il travaille d’après les plans qui lui sont fournis, il trace le parcours des canalisations le long des murs et des cloisons. Il façonne la tuyauterie en coupant des tubes aux dimensions désirées. Il les soude les uns aux autres ou les connecte à un appareil de chauffage ou à un équipement sanitaire, par exemple. Il vérifie le bon fonctionnement du système et l’absence de fuites.
Il installe des appareils sanitaires, des radiateurs, des chaudières aux endroits les mieux adaptés à leur utilisation. Il assure le réglage et l’entretien de toutes ces installations. Il effectue également de nombreux dépannages et réparations au domicile des particuliers.
Le plombier travaille le plus souvent sur un chantier, à l’abri des intempéries. Selon l’importance des travaux, il travaille seul ou en équipe. Il opère souvent dans des postures physiquement inconfortables et transporte parfois des charges lourdes. Il peut être conduit à travailler le samedi et certains jours fériés souvent dans l’urgence.
Le plombier exerce son activité en tant que salarié dans une entreprise de plomberie sanitaire ou du bâtiment ou dans une entreprise proposant diverses spécialités : couverture, chauffage, zinguerie, sanitaire. Il peut travailler à son compte comme artisan-installateur ou dépanneur.

Salaires / revenus
Un salarié débutant gagne au minimum le Smic 1 392 € brut par mois.S’il est à son compte, les revenus sont extrêmement variables selon la taille de l’entreprise, le nombre de collaborateurs. Ses revenus peuvent évoluer entre 2 800 et 5 000 € par mois.
Evolution professionnelle
Avec de l'expérience, le plombier peut devenir chef de chantier, contremaître, conducteur de travaux, monteur en installations thermiques, plombier zingueur, technicien de chantier en plomberie. Ce technicien de l’équipement sanitaire peut aussi s’installer à son compte.Etudes / formations

L'affaire des plombiers, affaire des micros ou Watergaffe, est un scandale impliquant la Direction de la surveillance du territoire (DST) et le journal Le Canard enchaîné.
Le soir du 3 décembre 1973, un journaliste et André Escaro, dessinateur et administrateur du journal, passent devant les nouveaux locaux de l'hebdomadaire et y aperçoivent de la lumière. Sur place, ils surprennent deux « plombiers » en pleins travaux... Ceux-ci sont en réalité des agents de la DST occupés à installer des micros dans les bureaux afin, par exemple, d'identifier les personnes communiquant des informations sensibles au Canard enchaîné1.
Malgré des preuves irréfutables fournies notamment par le Canard lui-même (les plaques d'immatriculation maladroitement camouflées des véhicules des plombiers prouvent que ceux-ci appartiennent aux services de police), la DST nie les faits. Un procès est ouvert, qui donnera raison à l'administration française2. Cette décision sera pourtant très controversée, et l'affaire sera surnommée Watergaffe, en référence auscandale du Watergate qui avait ébranlé les États-Unis quelque temps auparavant.
Depuis cet épisode, l'administration du Canard enchaîné a laissé une plaque commémorative dans ses locaux à l'endroit où les agents avaient percé un mur pour y installer leurs équipements.
L'affaire des plombiers, par son retentissement, a indirectement conduit le Premier ministre, Pierre Messmer et le président de la République,Georges Pompidou, deux mois et demi après les faits, à permuter les ministres de l'Intérieur et de l'Agriculture lors de la formation dutroisième gouvernement de Pierre Messmer, le 1er mars 1974 : Raymond Marcellin, jusque-là ministre de l'Intérieur et ayant la tutelle de la DST, a ainsi échangé son poste avec celui de Jacques Chirac, ministre de l'Agriculture et du Développement rural.
L'arrivée de Jacques Chirac au ministère de l'Intérieur a eu un effet non négligeable dans la campagne pour l'élection à la présidence de la République du successeur de Georges Pompidou, décédé le 2 avril 1974. L'affaire des plombiers devenant ainsi, parmi d'autres, l'un des éléments qui ont contribué à la victoire de Valéry Giscard d'Estaing lors de l'élection présidentielle de 1974.
